review 1: It’s hard to go back to the beginning but this volume does an admirable job of it. Ichigo and his friends are back in Karakura town and are starting their senior year in high school. It’s been so long that it’s easy to forget they are young teens. It was nice to see them doing things young people do. Now for spoilers. If you haven’t read the previous volume, you can skip this review with the idea you’ll have something to look forward to.Ichigo lost his Soul Reaper powers at the end of volume 48. It’s been seventeen months since then. Uryu has been dealing with any Hollows while Ichigo settles back into school and home life. His sister, Karin’s spiritual powers are growing and his relationship to her and Yuzu seems strained almost to the breaking point.A chan... morece encounter begins the new arc. Ichigo helps a stranger and what looks like mere chance is really a set up for a man name Ginjo and his companions. They want Ichigo. Ginjo drops veiled hints about Ichigo’s father and family getting the young man on his hook. All we know is Ginjo’s group wants Ichigo to regain his Soul Reaper powers but why we don’t know. Also something has attacked and nearly killed Uryu and Orihime and Chad could be next. And how does Urahara tie into this? We’ll have to read on. Personally I liked it. I like that the characters did seem older as far as the artwork was concerned. It’s nearly a year and a half time jump so that was good. I would have liked more of how Ichigo struggled post-losing his powers but that would have probably slowed the plot (and we can probably see hints of that down the road). This volume concentrated on story telling for a change and there are almost no fight scenes. That was kinda nice. I guess I’ll be reading on.
review 2: Well that was good, as normal for this comic a bit of jumping about in the story so that the reader is not fully up to speed with what has happened since the end of the last story arc. I'll give this a few more issues and then decide if the story is worth following or not. Frankly half the over exagerated screaming and shouting could be solved if folks just talked to each other in the story. As a lot of the drama in the first story could have been avoided - it took 40+ volumes for people to stop fighting each other and just fight the bad guys. I would rather no see that here as well. less
