review 1: The star rating system fails with Jumbo. It's an appalling nightmare from an alternate reality. I'll believe that my neighbor is a vampire before I'll believe the scenario depicted in Mr. Young's novel. If I were to list the pros and cons there would be no pros at all. The cons would be extensive and spoilers. The range of reviews skews from 1 to 5 stars. I've seen such comments as sweet romance. Just how the sexual practices of these children could be considered sweet is beyond me. And they are definitely still children. Their bodies may be mature, but emotionally the range of problems is significant. I would normally applaud an author for tackling a difficult subject such as the one depicted in Jumbo. But the way the MC addressed his sexuality came across as inserted for... more shock value. I finished the book, not because I enjoyed it, not because it has social or psychological merit, but just as I would have watched a train wreck. Or hilariously bad porn. It's the old "what next".I can't in any way recommend the book. But I also won't advise against reading it. It's simply something you've got to see for yourself.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. It had some issues, but they didn't keep me from loving Mitch and his micropeen. First of all, props to the author for writing about such a unique subject. I love reading about stuff I've not read about before. I for one have gotten tired of everyone in my m/m books having a monster cock, so this was a refreshing change.Young did a great job capturing the cruelty that can occur in school toward people who are different. That part was believable (for me at least), but somewhere around the halfway point I had to suspend my disbelief a little bit because everyone started acting strange! I was completely baffled by most everyone's behavior, but for the most part it was entertaining. The writing was rather simplistic, but it worked for Mitch's perspective. One thing I noticed is that the story took place in the US, but the writing was sprinkled with Britishisms that made me think the author must be British (someone being 'in hospital' rather than 'in the hospital', ringing someone instead of calling them, 'had got' instead of 'had gotten', reference to fish and chips, etc).Bottom line: this is a good book, the sex is hot, the characters are all kind of weird/crazy, Mitch's micropeen is adorably sexy, and I recommend the book to any and all who are looking for something different and erotic. less
