review 1: Author Tom Barber's second Sam Archer book, "The Getaway" is truly a wild and wooley adventure through the streets of NYC. Sam Archer is a member of London's elite ARU unit. (As was in first book). Archer is informed his father had been murdered in NYC. Archer's father a one time NYC cop had been for the last 11 years working for the FBI. Somebody had coldly and callously put a bullet in the back of Archer's Father's head. Sam has 7 days to fly across the Atlantic to attend the funeral and get some rest. Right off the plane Archer meets up with one of his Father's best and oldest friends. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Todd Gerrard meets with Sam. Gerrad is leading up the NYC Federal bank robbery task force. It seems one crew is cleaning up. Gerrand wants Sam to find the g... moreang, melt in and help take down these bad guys. The story explodes into high octane car chase action. Next there are several mind blowing twists just to rock the story line. The characters, especially the bad guys are defined and developed so well they all but come to life. Excellent dialog helped propel the book with it's action scenes into another gear. At times I felt like I was watch the 2 old movies: "Heat", & "The Town" That's a good thing. Helps to visualize such nasty characters as "Sean Farrell", or "Carmen Ortiz". This plot moves at 150 MPH from beginning to end, so you have to hold on tight for the twists and turns. A seat belt is highly recommended. If you haven't already caught on to Mr. Barber's Sam Archer series I urge you to do so ! Yes, 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars. After reading this I really must "Turtle" !
review 2: The second in the Sam Archer series (a British investigator), this book has you guessing along with the characters in trying to figure out what's really going on. The first half of the book moves along fairly serenely in setting the stage for the second half... which literally explodes with action! I was content to read the first half in several installments, but couldn't put the book down for the second half, staying up well past midnight to finish it in one shot :) less
