review 1: I really, really enjoyed this collection of essays. The subject material runs a wide spectrum, from an interesting observation of Werner Herzog's body of work, an absolutely hilarious essay about lore of the movie The Room by Tommy Wiseau that I just had to read out loud to my partner, and beautiful conversations about what makes not only a great writer but a lasting phenomenon and how awfully close we can come to never acknowledging them. Great, thoughtful read.
review 2: I picked this book up at the library because I wanted to read some essays and this looked interesting. Man am I glad I did. This is a collection of essays by Tom Bissell about creation. Not creation as in "Behold the scope of creation," but creation as in artistic types in today's society and
... more how they create. Be they novelists, filmmakers, or voice over artists for video games, every character met in this collection is involved in the act of creation and they all deal, in one way or another, with the changing face of pop-culture and the way that artists, and their art, are perceived. I recommend this book highly. less
