review 1: I bought this book for my brother's ninth birthday as he got started on reading with The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I thought this book comes close to that type of easy reading, and found the story and illustrations much more appropriate than Captain Underpants (though I was a huge fan of George and Harold all through elementary school!) While the story wasn't exactly exciting, I loved how clever and witty Stick Dog is. The other characters (Stick Dog'e friends) stand out as well with their colorful personalities. They're like any human group of friends. I would give this book five stars just for how cute and intelligent the characters were though I do wish there was more about the narrator himself. This is a must read for all reluctant preteen readers as it's funny, age... more appropriate and definitely memorable.
review 2: This is the story of Stick Dog and his friends Mutt, Karen, Stripes and Poo-Poo. I guess you could say they are homeless dogs - they live on the streets where they are constantly looking for food (especially hamburgers), chasing squirrels and interacting with people. The simple stick figure drawings complement the simple text. This is a good transition from picture books to chapter books.Recommend this book to readers in second or third grade and up, especially readers who read all the Wimpy Kid and Nate the Great books and want more books like those. Th second book is "Stick Dog Wants a Hot Dog. less

A good addition to an elementary library. Captain Underpants and Squish fans will love it.
