Midnight Secretary
review 1: SO Director Touma unexpectedly resigned, leaving Kaya Satozuki's boss, Takasu or something to fill in the spot - and Director Touma goes out of contact with Kaya & she's worried about him & whether he's feeding properly since he's a vampire & all, & she remembers that he told her to believe in him so she waits patiently & believes that he will contact her again because he needs her - he does & she visits him, in a building that he owns & he may be starting up a new company & also, he wants her to quit her job at Erde, but she doesn't want to, until the term of 1 year is over since it would be considered irresponsible & all the people, her co-workers are relying on her & she's really helping them out there & is a valued asset :)Sometimes i think Kyouhei needs to stop acting... more like an asshole & he is better though than he was in the 1st volume :)
review 2: So Kaya may have given in to her feelings and decided to be the best secretary and blood donor to her boss, Kyohei Tohma, that she can and deal with the fact that he can only see her as a tasty food source, but having to work at the company Erde (seeing that name in a German translation of the Japanese manga is just grinworthy - it's the German word for earth) and being Kyohei's allround factotum makes her become a total workaholic even more than before - so much so that the big business people decide that she is indispensible to Erde and Director Kyouhei has been dealing with her loss extremely well (because SHE has been handling all the details of his work at night and the secretary pool at the company has no idea of course).Defeated by her own work ethic! I loved the dilemma and I love when Kaya has her legs-apart fighting stance when she decides on or curses things. However it does lead to her having a breakdown after hearing that what she only wanted to finish up so she could be Kyouhei's secretary full time has lead to a job elsewhere.Kyohei on the other hand, is finally admitting to himself that whatever he may say to her or others, he really desires her and he is jealous of any time she spends NOT concentrating on him. In other words he gets majorly territorial on the one hand (and admits it), on the other hand his pride makes it very hard to feel crazy and tension because of a puny human! He actually tells her that, too.And then there's her boss at Erde who is a good-looking, nice guy who deeply appreciates the flawless work she does and starts to look at her as desireable when he realises the undercurrents when Kaya and Kyohei are in the same room. He owns a cat (and has a different pair of eyeglasses in every chapter ^^).When things go so far, that Kaya is transferred to Erde for good and they tell her she has a one-year contract there, Kyouhei takes steps to let her keep her pride as a secretary but open other possiblities to return to him: he strikes out on his own, founding his own investment company (and because of his pride tries to take a leave of abstinence from her - and of course he doesn't tell her). But he's already so far gone in his trust, though he doesn't admit that, that he tells her that he couldn't handle contacting her without taking her away at once.Basically, if you don't mind a proud vampire who even has some reason for his alpha behaviour and a girl who has decided to totally follow him and her love for him although she doesn't expect him to love her back the way she does, then you'll have a story of a slow change in this type of man and a girl who always does her best in an honest way and won't let him run roughshod over her values. I adored the end scene of the main story in this volume where they have just made love in the new empty office of his new company where he told her he was building a new company so she was able to come to him for good and cut the ties with Tohma and not look ungrateful, etc (that's one of the clever ways the mangaka shows that Kyouhei accepts her personality and will go out of his way to make what he wants palatable to her so that she doesn't lose her sense of self-worth) - and then of course he says she should start right away. And she says "No." Firmly. Totally certain. Because she wants to leave everything shipshape and that's the way she works and is. And instead of flying into a temper he is reluctantly amused and decides he'd rather seduce her into changing her mind (and she doesn't as we learn in the next volume). less
