review 1: I didn't read the reviews or write up closely enough, otherwise I would have known that this was a romance novel more than a mystery novel. I thought the lead character, as well as the other characters, was very shallow. A lead detective whose hormones rule her body, even in the midst of a homicide investigation. The plot had some potential, but I thought it was poorly executed. The author did, however, keep you guessing somewhat as to who the killer was for much of the book. If you're into romance novels, this one may be up your alley, but not so much if you're more into good writing that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
review 2: With vibrant writing, a cast of damaged, captivating characters and a plot that’s deliciously diabolical, Dangerous Waters
... more will have you mesmerized from page one. Anderson writes in a dark, edgy style reflected in the setting, the story line, and the secrets that haunt the members of this close-mouthed coastal community. Her characters are multi-dimensional and sympathetic—I was especially moved by the thorny relationship between Finn and his ex-convict brother. The sexual tension is high, the humor is gritty and Anderson’s background as a marine biologist lends an energetic authenticity to the story’s backdrop and the all-important dive scenes. A follow-on book entitled Dark Waters—featuring Finn’s reclusive brother—is due out in June of 2013 and I. Can’t. Wait. less
