review 1: Crime Czar was pretty confusing for me since I jumped in at the fifth book however I still enjoyed the book even with all the confusing plot lines the author has put into it. I can respect the multi-dimentional story which is why I think I enjoy it more because it gives you so much more to think about as you read. There could have been a better flow to it all or it could have been put into multiple books but I thought in the end the author handled it well enough to create a decent story.
review 2: Having read the City of Beads and enjoyed, took the opportunity to download this free offering by Tony Dunbar, one of 7 books in the Tubby Dubonnet series of mysteries located in New Orleans. While I enjoyed the peek into New Orleans and the flavor of the food, people
... more, and general lay of the land in the other book, this book fell a tad short in those descriptions and the plot dragged a bit for me. I never really did get caught up in the characters, and except for Tubby and Daisy, didn't really develop a vested interest. A crime czar was the focus of the plot, which weaved in and out of the story line and was then dumped in the end for a nebulous crime committee of sorts; not a grand czar and never actually identified (maybe he lost interest), though a few bad guys were eliminated. Tubby seems to break almost as many rules and laws as the bad guys, but doesn't have to worry about accountability apparently. Recommend the book for those who love N'Awlins, but maybe not so much for the mystery. less
