review 1: Although the book presents itself as a journey through the 2011 season, it's much more than that. Tony goes in to great detail on the lessons he learned as a player and manager explaining the thought process behind is decisions. I really enjoy learning the "why" behind his decision to do things like bring in a reliever to throw an intentional walk and then pull him for another reliever. It was good to read his appreciation for the Cardinals organization and their great history. I really enjoyed this book.
review 2: I enjoyed the mix this book offered of game recaps (I didn't watch the 2011 postseason myself, but I believe the managerial insight would have kept these sections novel even if I had) and personal anecdotes spotlighting players and coaches. Although
... more the flashbacks to old games with the White Sox and the A's did start to get a little tiresome toward the end, they were in keeping with the overall style of the memoir. It's especially great that this was Tony LaRussa's book, as his extensive prior experience with the Cardinals lent an emotional weight to a story that can be hard to believe at times. Along those lines, I would have liked more showing and less telling, especially during the recaps. less

Listened to this book as an audiobook an it was fantastic. Great read just before the season begins!

Rambling, scatter-brained. More informative on shingles than how to manage a MLB club.

LaRussa proves he's the pompous ass you always thought he was.
