review 1: Well, this was an interesting book. It is about a German family who move to South America shortly after WWII. In route to their final destination, their plane crashes in the Amazon (pilots die) and they are mistaken by a primitive native tribe for dolphins in human form and are taken in. They must perpetuate the mistaken belief for their survival while they plan for escape. This book is very well written, the characters well developed. The society created for the native tribe is believable and intriguing. There are many graphic scenes in the book, but it really helps set the stage, and that doesn't bother me. I didn't really care for or root for any of the characters, but I was interested in seeing how it all turned out. The ending was open ended and leaves a lot t... moreo think about. Although I found it an interesting read, I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone.
review 2: I wish this book were a guy so I could marry it and have a million babies with it. Read The Dolphin People if you like rollicking adventure stories told in crystal clear, diamond-sharp prose; if you enjoy gasping in terror every 20 pages or so; if you have the stomach for death by piranha and mutilation; if you're interested in tall, handsome, purely evil Nazis; or if you like complicated philosophical ideas explicated so beautifully and simply that they go down as easily as a gin and tonic after a day at the beach. less

Ok to read for a 13-14 year old. Total waste of time for the older.
