review 1: I know Ms. Warren's known for her historicals, but I confess the cover of this leapt out at me at the library, and I couldn't resist bringing this home. The whole rivals-to-lovers thing is one of my catnips :)The Last Man on Earth was a page-turning read--I loved getting to know good girl Madelyn and bad boy Zack, who are rival ad executives at the same company. They have an openly and heatedly antagonistic relationship, so when a chance meeting finds them with their walls down and their undeniable attraction and chemistry combust, they agree it's in their best interest to keep their presumed temporary fling a secret.Alas, it is one thing when it's fun, hot, and just-for-now but when the days and nights extend to weeks then months, then it's just a matter of time before... more the never-gonna-get-hitched and the desire for the picket fence and babies collide.Ms. Warren deftly reveals the heart of the conflict and I nearly wept with the characters' pain. They don't always make what might be the best choices, but they do resonate as being very human, and for that, ultimately forgivable.I very much enjoyed The Last Man on Earth and look forward to The Man Plan, which tells the story of one of Madelyn's sisters...
review 2: I really wanted to like this book. I thought the main characters were pretty funny and had good chemistry. But honestly...it's like if you're watching a movie with your best friend and they keep insisting to fast forwarding through the boring parts. That's what the author did to me. She fast forwarded through what she figured were the boring parts and I kept blinking like, "wait what did I miss? Why are they saying that to each other?"I would have loved it better if the author hadn't kept skipping forward and just let me read those boring parts... less
