review 1: Wow what a wonderful read. Evelyn or Evie as she is called is a thirty five year old plastic surge who is hopeless in all things love. Her friends Hillary and Tabby gives her a surprise birthday party and start to get her to start dating again. She signs up for a dating service and even goes out with a doctor her friend Hillary set her up with but none of these men stood a chance after she met Tyler. Her first encounter with Tyler was as her patient so when he kept asking her out she mentioned that but she could not deny the attraction. Eventually they go out and it is all that she felt the relationship would be. It's a change to read a romance where the woman is the one with finance and job security. Also she is eight years older and this too made her not want to go out w... moreith him but he kept pursuing. I truly enjoyed a great novel by Ms Brogan.
review 2: I'm giving this book five stars because it really worked, even though I have a quibble with one of the threads. I thoroughly enjoy chick lit like this that mixes a romance with a more soul-searching thread. Our heroine is a 35-year-old type-A plastic surgeon who has to learn to loosen her hands on the reins of life and admit that a guy who doesn't look good on paper might be the perfect fit.The thread that bothered me was her biological clock starting to tick. Throughout the book, it felt like the author was setting the heroine up to realize that she didn't really want kids after all --- she was uncomfortable holding a baby (although apparently got gooey anyway) and didn't feel she had enough time in her doctor schedule to walk a dog twice a day (raising the question --- what would she do with a kid who presumably needs more than 15 minutes of her attention?). But that thread wasn't really resolved at the end of the book at all, one way or the other. Anyway, other than that, the book was a light, fun read. And if the book had included an epilogue, I probably wouldn't have been left feeling like the story was somehow incomplete. less

Another winner from Tracy Brogan about the charming town of Bell Harbor! I listened to this as an audiobook and I felt like parts of it were almost like stand-up comedy as the jokes were funny and the narrator had the perfect pitch. During the first chapter, main character Evie was likening birthdays to Pap Smears with presents and I buckled in for a wild ride lol. The story wasn't anything new but the way that each character is drawn with the best kind of brushstroke so that you feel like you live in the town is very enjoyable. The sex toy party was probably one of my favorite scenes-highly recommended if you want a light and funny read. Loved Tyler, too!

Want a good beach book??? The Best Medicine is a great read--summer or winter. Charming characters and snappy dialogue, especially the female lead's inner dialogue. A well educated, financially secure older woman falls for a younger, less educated but wonderful man. The author manages to explore these issues without overkill. In addition the fringe characters are wonderfully fleshed out and each could have their own book. And I am looking forward to reading everyone of them.
