review 1: After much contemplation I gave this three stars rather than four, for reasons not entirely due to the author (and probably not a good reason to do it). I thought this work of historical fiction would focus on the slave trade/underground railroad and not so much the making of quilts and bonnets. That being said, it is a very good read by an author whose writing I enjoy. So I do recommend this work of fiction.
review 2: While I never really connected with Honor as a character, I very much enjoyed the book. I liked the slow, drawn out style, which seemed to suit Honor's quiet nature, and I enjoyed the passages about quilting. The book was also a love letter to Ohio, which as a southerner I had never really considered being worthy of love.
