review 1: This is the first graphic novel I have ever read, and while the experience itself was great, I don't know that this was the best medium for this story. I imagine in her mind there was a very specific journey with a lot of points that led her to her final decision, but due to the layout it was mostly a story about a girl having a lot of sex (mostly unwanted) and then giving up and going home. There were some beautiful moments, like when they sneak into the concert, but mostly it was a bit repetitive with unclear intentions. I will say it makes me leery of ever going to Sicily :-).
review 2: This book offers an interesting view of punk culture and Germany and Italy in the '80s. However, it's really hard to connect with because the characters are all fairly unli... morekeable and there's no actual plot (and I say that having really liked a few other graphic novels in this non-fiction/memory style). I might not have finished the book if it weren't so light and breezy to read through. I'm fairly surprised this is being offered up as one of the best original graphic novels of the year. less
