review 1: Every year the town of Holmsbury anticipates its annual town fair. In fact the students of Holmsbury get to skip a day of school to attend the fair on Fair Day. For Miller this year is an especially important because he must convince his parents, including his overprotective mother, to let him go to the Fair on his own. He is a 6th grader after all!! But when his mother has to work on Fair day, and his father as signed up to volunteer, Miller and his 6 year old sister Penny must go to the fair with their next door neighbor. But when his neigbor wakes up with a migraine and sleeps half the day away, Miller takes initiative to take his sister along with her pesty 6-year-old friends to the Fair. All hopes of Miller's plans for an amazing Fair day have turned into a frustrating... more fair day. As an elder sibling I really appreciated this novel. The author protrays Miller's frustrations and worries that the reader can understand and sympathize with. While Miller wants to have a fun time he learns that along with being an elder sibling he has to show responsibility. This book is full of twists and turns, and it is hysterical. I laughed several times reading this book. Older readers who have graduated from the Diary of a Wimpy Kids series will love Miller and his friend Lewis.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. It took me back to my childhood days of getting a day off for the fair. I could almost taste the corn on the cob and pronto pups as I read the description of how Miller, his best friend Lewis, and the "Pest Pack" made up of Miller's six year old sister and her two neighbor friends made their rounds at the local fair. I loved that the main character was a bit of a Science geek, but still very much an eleven year old boy who just wants to have fun with his best bud. It's a tale of adventure, mystery, and even of growing up. In short, it was definitely a good read. less
