review 1: 3.5 starsThis is a prequel novella to Archetype, and it features the two main male leads, Declan and Noah. Though it is a prequel, it almost relies on having read Archetype to know who the characters are and how they fit into the series, to care about their story. It was a quick read, with the story alternating between two men who have similar backgrounds--rich with dreams beyond inheriting their fathers' companies-- but end up taking very directions in their lives. As in Archetype, the sci-fi elements are hinted at--a future where women who are fertile are a valued commodity to be bought by the highest buyer. It's sci-fi lite but is nicely written overall and nice knowing about these characters' past.
review 2: The first thing you should know is that this is
... moretold from Declan and Noah's respective perspectives and that we only see Emma at the very end. If you're expecting to learn more about her relationships with either, you're going to be a little disappointed.Instead, this novella helps us learn more about Declan and Noah. Because we only know them from Emma's perspective (and because so much of Archetype is confusing and Emma doesn't really remember either of them all that well), this is a very valuable thing.I am definitely Team Noah, but I appreciated getting to see a better side of Declan. And it was interesting to see exactly how each person became the way they were. (When we met them in Archetype, they were pretty well established, personality-wise.)I hope there will be another book set in this world, and even more hopeful that it will be released soon. I really love these characters and books.Highly recommended. (And for those of you who haven't read Prototype---sorry to rub it in---this will definitely help fill the void. If you haven't read Archetype, change that immediately.) less

As a prequel it was ok, but without Emma from Archetype and Prototype, it fell short.

I know, I know. But, sorry, friends, it is still Declan Forever.
