review 1: Some great lines here. The book's strength is its reflection on how we are effected by "ghosts" (memories, imagined realities, dreams, etc.) -- how "the fiber of fiction begins to modify reality and not vice versa, as it should be." Luiselli has some insight on this type of thing, but I had a tough time getting through this short book. The narration, structure, and plot were disjoint, and evoking that seemed to be the point; Luiselli calls it "A horizontal novel, told vertically," which is really how the book reads. The narrators blend together and it becomes difficult to tell who's telling the story. This is the point, of course: that people overlap and blend together and shape others' realities. It was too much for me. Maybe I was just looking for something with more plo... moret when I picked this one up. Maybe in another mindset, in another time, it would be right for me. Luiselli says, "It is very difficult not to be more than one person. Every person is a half-open door leading to a room for everyone." Sadly, I couldn't inhabit the right part of myself to engage in this book.

Of twee.
