review 1: I have to say this super surprised me. I didn't think I would like it...like at all...but omigosh I had to shut my face and take it all back. This was such a fun read!I would recommend this book to people who like to laugh at the little things in life. Doug's character just reminds me of a classic stoner/hippie type. He can say such stupid things, but at the same time he's pretty deep. He flows on his on path that's not the norm of every daily stress. He takes life as it comes and leaves it in it's place when he's done. You really can't help but laugh at every silly remark and leave you saying "what?" in a long chuckle. The other main character, Stephen, is the total opposite of Doug. He's more with the times. He understands the way the real world works. There's just no pla... morece for a brief moment of fantasy in his life. So, having him and Doug interact just makes you laugh and laugh some more. They play off one another so well. There are also other characters I enjoyed, the minor ones, like Wilson. Hearing the mind workings of a drug dealer never made me smile more. He's street wise and very clever. Definitely surprised me with this character. I just wish there was a longer ending to this. It just finished too fast for me! Hehe.
review 2: This one is quite hard to rate. Its very very funny with quite a lot of laugh out loud moments. My husband was looking at me weirdly a lot of the time. Of course I couldn't tell him what I was laughing at as he just wouldn't get it.Doug is beyond stupid and I'm pretty sure people like him have been Darwined out of existence by now. But he was extremely refreshing and every now and then came up with something very profound. I liked that he was the perfect match for Stephen. Stephen hates the world and everyone in it. Never smiles and is basically as arse to everyone. But Doug makes him smile - a little anyway. This isn't really a romance and all sex is behind closed doors. We get some kissing action but that's it. This is more of a comedy. There is no HEA, its more like a 'happy for today' ending. I don't think the way the story was told it would have supported a HEA, but it ended the right way.If you need a good laugh and don't mind extreme stupidity with no sex, this is the book for you! less
