review 1: Mi è piaciuto, anche se non troppo, questo secondo libro di Manfredi che leggo.La ricostruzione storica è eccezionale, si capisce subito la mentalità dei greci, si vedono gli orrori della guerra, e inoltre ho ampliato le mie conoscenze sull'anabasi con questo "giallo" sul fatto che forse la stessa Sparta volesse che i mille non ritornassero.La protagonista è simpatica, sveglia e coraggiosa.Però non mi piace moltissimo la scrittura,e il romanzo, anche se interessante, non mi ha appassionato.
review 2: I'm not sure about this bloke's novels, to be honest. The idea behind the story was great, the plot was sound with a few good twists and - last but not least - it's about ancient Greece. But for me, it lacked heart and true substance. The attempt to tell the s... moretory from the women's perspective is admirable, but VMM would have been better served using Xenophon as his main narrator. That way we would have got more battles - and less unlikely situations in terms of developing intrigue. Finally, there are also a few cringe worthy moments in here that have been done far better elsewhere - the 'molon labe' scene for instance was dreadful. Yet it starts strong and ends well, so its's not all bad. less
