review 1: I loved this book until the sexually explicit scene. Auda was such a strong female protagonist...despite all of the things working against her. But, I was disturbed that the author felt the need to pander to a lower element by including such graphic details, and I felt it was actually very out of character for innocent and idealistic Auda later to attempt to perform a sexual favor to attain what she needed. This could have been handled better, and that would have made the book truly outstanding.

Took a while but I did enjoy it - make me want to learn more about the origins of papermaking etc.
