review 1: "i remind her of a part of her life she'd rather not think about.""you dont call her because you expect something. you call her because she's your mother and its the right thing to do. you do it for you. because doing the right thing is important to you. thats your payoff." "then how come i still feel lousy?" "because you deserve better.""she hadnt counted on love that wasnt a careful, deliberate step, but a hard, fast fall.""having bad things happen to you doesnt make you a bad person.""i dont want to talk about it. i dont want to think about it. i want it to be like it never happened.""if you never asked, you were never disappointed. if you didnt rely on someone, they could never let you down if you never admitted how desperately you wanted something, it didnt hurt so mu... morech when it was taken away."
review 2: Carolina Man by Virginia Kantra, copyrighted in 2014, published by The Berkley Publishing Group ISBN: 978-0-425-26887-2Pages: 284Marine Luke Fletcher receives a call from Kate Nolan, a lawyer, informing him he has a child. Luke soon falls for both his little girl and Kate. The only problem is the Simpsons, Kate’s maternal grandparents and their son Kevin. The Simpsons fight for custody and lose. When, they take the step to being amicable, the sight of Kevin causes Taylor to wet her pants. Turns out that Kevin used to masturbate in front of Taylor. In the end, Kevin is caught cooking meth, while Luke retires from the Marines in order to be there for Taylor and soon-to-be-wife Kate.Carolina Man is the third in the Dare Island series, set on Dare Island in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. This is a heart-warming contemporary romance showing the long-term effects that family can have upon a person and the healing that love, whether from family or friend, can bring. The hero of this tale may be a Marine but the story is not one of heroic deeds and adventure but of familial duties and internal wars. This novel flows well and would be a great recommendation to all romance genre lovers. less
