review 1: This is one of those stories where I fell in love with the secondary characters just as much as the main.Russell's brain mechanics reminded me of my little sister, his arguments with Rob had me almost wetting myself. And I freakin' loved the whole "condimentaphobic" thing. I've never known anyone other than myself that has a major aversion to making all food taste the same with condiments :)Rob was wonderfully intuitive and mellow. I was pleased that he seemed more spiritual than religious and so giving, and we totally need more people like him in the world.Cole reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger; A realist, a fatalist, and a cynic. There's nothing wrong with those attributes but it was nice to see him grow and come out of his shell, see that the world isn't out... more to punish him and there are people out there who do give a shit.Ellis I just wanted to snuggle and make everything better for him. His confusion hurt to read and I was greatly pleased that he had such a wonderful group of people surrounding him and helping him with both physical and emotional issues he had to deal with.Marvellous reading.
review 2: 2.5 stars. I didn't click with this style of writing. The dialogue/writing was awkward, wordy and preachy with too many exclamation points and parenthetical phrases. And despite the title, there was very little humor here.I also didn't like the head-hopping. What was the point of being inside the mom's, Mike's or Rob's heads? I would have rather spent that time inside Ellis' head because I don't think I got a complete picture of him. His conversation avoidance tactics were maddening. A lot was made of Ellis' lack of sexual experience, but he and Cole go at it without talking about it before or after. It took almost 70 percent of the book before these MCs had a meaningful conversation. Exasperating. All that said, I still found the MCs mostly likable and their HEA was nice. I liked how Ellis just let Cole be his anal, controlling self without trying to change him. I liked Rob and Russ too, and how both reacted to Ellis' and Cole's relationship. It was enough to hold my attention to the end. less
