review 1: This book is a perfect book for young beginning readers. The illustrations go hand in hand with the story. Story is basic and simple, and often times rhyming. Teaching about farm animals (cows, turkey, horses, sheep, goats, etc) At the end of the story there is very small basic paragraphs with facts about the animals that a reader could help continue to teach a child about those animals. My granddaughter received this book by being a member of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library; she received it when she was 9 mths old and we've read it several times since!

It his history of family farms that helps him to create an actual account for the young reader."My mother and father grew up ... moreon small family farms in Illinois, and my childhood memories of visits to those farms have left lasting impressions.The farm is where I learned to love the smell of spring rains and where I became a cloud watcher while walking through fields of corn on hot summer days. it is where I learned to love the land, to love nature, and to love the animals."
