review 1: Ajai - So many words...I should have done this review alone then I wouldn't have to condense the amount of HELL NOs I have to give. What the hell was this book about? Oh yeah, an attorney that's batshit crazy and the supposed "perfect mix of Justin Timberlake and David Beckham." Yeah, okay Wendy. *side eye* First of all, the main character is too neurotic and has way too many psychological issues to be just one character. Mood swings, alcoholism, addiction to pain meds, abandonment issues, psychosomatic pain, paranoia. She's schizo and Wendy out here trying to act like this makes for a good romance. #GirlByeWendy Williams was definitely trying too damn hard with this "romance". The intimacy between King and Kim wasn't hot and steamy. I've read better intimate scenes in YA... more novels. King is supposed to be mysterious and sexy and whatever else Wendy read in a how-to-write-romance novels book but he is far from even interesting. The story is predictable and laughable. This isn't romance, it's straight comedy. 1 star because I struggle read through the endAri - DNF...No review because I got through 20% on my kindle and stopped. Didn't like what I read.Maddie - Y'all are so harsh! It wasn't that bad. I mean, it wasn't good but it wasn't 1-Star or DNF bad. I agree that Kim had too many issues bundled into one character but gave insight as to why she was the way she was. One thing I will say is that Hold Me in Contempt is not a romance novel in anyway. If Wendy did have a how-to-write-romance novel book as Ajai suggested, she certainly didn't use it. The reason why romance readers buy romance books is because we want to read the love story. We want to see the progression and be infatuated by it. Wendy, honey-baby, you gave us none of that. There was no love story. Just sex then all of a sudden they're in love. Back to the drawing board with that one Mrs. Williams. I'll give you 3 stars because I liked the plot but without the romance aspect, it's not what I paid for.
review 2: Barely Holding on...Kimberly Kind's mother was a crack addict who's disappearing acts caused her father to turn to alcohol. Kimberly overcomes the odds becoming a lawyer then an assistant district attorney. From the outside it appears as if her life is headed in the right direction but just below the surface she's struggling to cope with her parental issues and the betrayal of her fiancé who slept with her best friend. Added to that is the stress from her demanding job made even more so by the affair she's having with her married boss.A chance meeting in a bar affords Kimberly an opportunity of a relationship that doesn't add more stress to her already overwhelming existence. But just when Kimberly thinks King could be her knight in shining armor her fairytale gets a jarring reality check. Hold Me In Contempt has an interesting plot just not the unparalleled passion that it's attempting to conjure up. The chemistry between Kimberly and King was almost non existent thereby stifling the romantic aspect of the novel. The most intriguing plot twist was the fiancé best friend storyline and Kimberly's twin brother Kent was more likable than both Kimberly and King. There was definite potential but the lack of chemistry caused the novel to miss its mark. Kent's antics and the afore mentioned plot twist were the redeeming factors that prevented a below average rating.Final Rating 3 StarsDelonya ConyersARC Book Club Inc. less

The concept was promising but the development of the story line was poor.
