review 1: It would be easy to compare this book to John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars," due to the fact that the central character is a sarcastic teen girl with terminal cancer. But Wunder infuses "The Probability of Miracles" with originality. While Green's book is an epic romance, Wunder's story is more about the main character--Cam--letting go of her cynacism and beliving in something bigger than herself. All the characters, particularly Cam's family, were great. I loved the insights into Disney culture and Samoan culture, too.
review 2: Do you believe in "miracles"? Certainly Cam doesn't.Reading this book I thought it will give me a lot of feels, sadness, and a heavy heart since this is the third time I've read a book about cancer. Though the book also made me laug
... moreh, and made me realize about life. Well Cam is a teenager who's got cancer and has a very sarcastic personality. What I liked about this book is that the story is not just not about Cam and her sickness but it's also about the people around her---her family. There's her mom, Alicia, who of course would do whatever it takes for Cam to live. Her sister Perry, despite her age she's always there for her sister who sometimes sacrifices her time for her sister. At first I thought that this Promise journey would just be Cam going and it wasn't. I just love how her family was there for her. Even though Cam was being stubborn they still went. Then a lot of "miracles" happen to them while they were in Maine or atleast Cam thought of it that it was just"coincidence".I for somehow understand why Cam was like that. She's been through a lot of tough times, her parents got divorced, her father died, then the worst part was when she got cancer. She's just got no time for any "miracles" or hope in her. Then she met Asher, the time when she thought she was just happy and contented (love really moves in mysterious ways lol). Then of course things got rocky but it made Cam somehow hope, but then she still knew she needs to go.I really liked how it ended because I just like how realistically happened to her. But you know as a reader I also had hoped that she would be fine that she still have time. And I think that's the beauty of the book, because as a reader I too hoped a miracle would happen to her.Overall I think Cam still got her "miracle". And It was the miracle of finding love, being loved, happiness for her family, and the miracle of Cam in believing it. This is a great book for everyone to read. It's just not about cancer but it's also about what the person feels to have it and the people who's around her/him. And that it doesn't mean that you're not well, you couldn't do anything anymore. The present is in front of you, embrace it and you could picture it as your "forever" less
