review 1: A worthy read. The author is fair to President Reagan, it is the myth that has been built up around Mr. Reagan that the author "tears down" through a clear review of historic events. I remembered most of the cited examples mentioned, and I agree that many of the true actions of the former president have been spun into an entire new meaning that fits the ideology of the current generation of Reagan worshipers.Somehow Mr. Bunch passes over the standoff between Reagan and the air traffic controllers Union in 1981. The strike by PATCO, Reagan’s subsequent breaking of the union and the hiring of replacement workers were among the most significant job actions of their time, said Joseph A. McCartin, a professor at Georgetown University and a specialist on labor and social hist... moreory. They “helped to define labor relations for the rest of the century and even into the 21st century".Mr Bunch mentions the bombing of the The Beirut Barracks Bombings (October 23, 1983, in Beirut, Lebanon), but never mentions the crash of Arrow Air DC-8 in Gander, Newfoundland on December 12th, 1985, killing all 248 passengers and 8 crew members on board. To date, it retains the highest death toll of any aviation accident on Canadian soil and the second-highest of any accident involving a DC-8, behind the crash of Nigeria Airways Flight 2120 six years later. The accident was investigated by the Canadian Aviation Safety Board (CASB), which determined the probable cause of the crash was the aircraft's unexpectedly high drag and reduced lift condition, most likely due to ice contamination on the wings' leading edges and upper surfaces, as well as underestimated onboard weight. A minority report stated that the accident could have been caused by an onboard explosion of unknown origin prior to impact. It was an embarrassment to Reagan's administration and it was worthy of reviewing in this book of "myths".
review 2: A very good, very informative book. However with books of this type footnotes or end notes are essential. This book has end notes that reference the sources the author uses but they are just thrown in the back of the book. There are no references in the text pointing to the specific end note so the reader is left to read all of the end notes and try to determine which one references the passage that was just read. It can be very confusing. less
