review 1: I've read Napoleon's Pyramids and The Rosetta Key, the first two books in this Ethan Gage series. Both were excellent adventures. I liked this book as well, but not quite as much. It has a Hamlet-like ending with few, besides Gage himself, left alive to tell the tale. Still, his journey from France, to New York, to a Washington D.C. under construction, to Michigan's Upper Peninsula and across the Great Lakes into Minnesota -- all this before the Lewis and Clark expedition -- is fun to follow.
review 2: Ethan Gage in North America early 19th Century. I was glad to see another book with the Ethan Gage character, but this one is not nearly as interesting as "Napoleon's Pyraminds" and the "Rosetta Key". I did enjoy the conversations about life between Gage and a Fr... moreench Voyageur, ... very similar conversations to what Hawkeye initiates in "The Last of the Mohicans". The canoe chase scenes are similar to Mohicans as well. less
