review 1: A friend told me that he knew I would enjoy this book. How many times have I heard that and been unable to finish the book?? Lots.I knew nothing about "fancy named" drinks, the job of a bar man or any other William Lashner novels before I began reading this book. I thought it was neatly plotted and the characters made me want to learn a bit more about each one so I continued reading. Clever use of zen and meditation practices. I was guessing until the end. My friend was right---this is a book that is hard to put down. I need to find a few more Lashner books to read.
review 2: Decent old style noirish murder mystery with interesting characters. One sub-plot was right out of "Of Mice & Men," but worked well within this story. However, this was one of those books
... more that could have been whittled down by 50 pages or so, and the love interest angle was unnecessary and had a bit of an "eeeeww" factor for me.This was a Bookbub freebie for the Kindle app, and it was better than I expected. I would definitely like to read some of the author's other books. less
