review 1: This was a tough read. I know things like this happen in the real world, but I think it was more disturbing because Jimmy is a high school kid. It's hard to imagine someone that young doing things like this. Someone that can be so sweet and kind to his girlfriend and then do those things to the girls and be so cruel is sickening. This sounds odd, but the person I felt the worst for was Jimmy's brother Alan. The beginning and end of the book were exciting, but the middle lagged a little bit. I spent a great deal of the book waiting for something to happen. 3 1/2 stars.
review 2: I downloaded this as a free download a few months ago. I naively read the summary about kidnapping two girls and had no thought to how perverse and intense this book would be. There were... more so many times I thought to myself why I kept reading and what my friends on Goodreads would think. This book transported me to a darker and more disturbed place than any I had ever been before. As I read online that the author spent 10 years (17-27!), it became a bit more disturbing! Like many of the previous reviews said, this book could use a proofreader and sometimes it appeared like autocorrect was used and not checked over. Reading through these errors, Jimmy was still a page turner. Even though some parts got a bit too graphic, I still felt compelled to read on. I really grew to care about the girls and wanted to see what their future was: life or death. This book isn't one I'd read again, but it was a compelling one. I can't say I truly enjoyed this book (If I did enjoy it, I'd be a bit scared!), but it was an interesting read that really got me caring about the characters to read to the end. less
