review 1: I have to say that at first, I wasn't sure about this book. I read one of Nicholson's other books when I was in Year Six, and all I can remember from it is that I hated it - but that was probably because I didn't understand it. And how do I know that? Because I absolutely fell head over heels for this book! From reading the blurb, you can kind of get a vague picture of Maddy - she's a young teen who wants to have her first love. And that is what you get: she immediately sets out to find someone to have a crush on, who is Joe. Now this is the confusing bit - from reading the title of the novel and the blurb, you think Maddy and Rich are going to be the ones falling in love. But instead, Maddy crushes on Joe, and Rich crushes on Maddy's best friend, Grace. However, that isn'... moret the end of it. The book is full of unexpected twists and turns, and you will find yourself laughing, crying, and really believing in true love. It's such a heartwarming story and I found that I learnt a lot about myself as a teenager through the story. I really do recommend it - it is one of those kinds of books that honestly make you sit back and think about the world as the whole. It also teaches you to never judge a book by its cover. Literally.
review 2: Didn't like this book at all. Hadn't even got to chapter five before I basically slammed it against the wall. It's meant to be about teenagers, friendship and love. Okay, I was captivated by the front cover and I thought it looked cute and I'm never the type of person to just judge a book by it's cover but it was positively this time, so it didn't count. Anyway, I gave it a quick scan and decided to purchase it.It took me four days to get round to it and I started reading it last night before I went to sleep, but this was a great comforter since it bored me to tears.I don't know why but the first thing that bothered me was the writing. I write fanfiction and read a lot of different varietes of writing from author to author, but this was atrocious. Given the fact that the author kept using the word, "said." after everyone said something, literally made me irritated to the core. The first few pages used it a lot and I thought it would go away. However, I was completely wrong! For the next three chapters everyone said this, everyone said that.It really made me wanna commit or something. Next thing that bothered me was the amount of time these characters whined about something. I'm not from England, I'm from Scotland but no ordinary person swears enough to make this book vulgar. It was so unneccesary and boring. If you want an adventerous hooking book, don't pick this one up. It drags on and on. In my opinion it's overrated and sort of dated by a few hints in moments of the book.On my way to read another great book I picked up which seems more promising. less
