Book Review: The Secret wife by Gill Paul

I rated 4 Stars on Goodreads.

The novel weaves a deeply intricate story of the well known Romanov family of Russia. Did some of the children escape? This presents a good deal of the theme of this novel. Gill Paul did an excellent job of finding factual information regarding the Romanov family and making assumptions about all the what-ifs (there are many) that could have befallen this incredibly unfortunate family.  Most of the speculation regarding the potentially surviving Romanovs was surrounding Anastasia. Paul chose to feature a story speculating what if perhaps a different sister, Tatiana, had instead survived.

Thus we delve into Tatiana Romanov’s life where a brilliant love story erupts between Tatiana and Dmitri Malama. They fall helplessly in love with one another and although separated through the majority of their romance, their emotional bonds are never severed. A heart warming story about a man who would go to the ends of the earth to save the woman he loves. A true knight in shining armor albeit a few unforeseen twists, turns and hardships along the way. I will end vaguely as not to discourage the actual reading of the novel by giving away too many spoilers! Truly an ending I never thought possible and well worth the read.

What is more, Paul did an incredible job with research including the gifts presented to Tatiana by Dmitri, family names, as well geographical locations. Facts were supplemented by creating a most engaging romantic story from a very imaginative writer.
