review 1: Favorite book of 2014 so far! Reminded me of the beautiful pictures painted in The Night Circus. Certainly a feast for my imagination. The ending seemed to warrant another book but perhaps that is not the case. It may just be a wonderful mystery. Also, I enjoyed that the title was immediately obvious but also had more to go along to it than I had thought. I was certainly enthralled for the entirety of this book.
review 2: Loved this book. Enjoyed learning about the Chinese afterlife mythology by watching the main character, Li Lan, traverse through the spirit world(s) as she became less connected to the regular human world of the physical body. Li Lan becomes more and more disillusioned by the petty jealousies and greed of both the living and the dead and yet,
... morein the end, she still must choose what kind of life she will rejoin. less
