review 1: Salmonella Men on Planet Porno is a collection of short stories, of which the title story is the last, longest and probably the best.I didn't enjoy many of the stories, as I found them to be just a little bit weird and quite pointless. They seem to be reflective of Japanese culture, which I know little about, and they were generally quite misogynistic in their portrayal of relationships and family situations. Very few of the characters were likeable and the female characters were portrayed as very unlikeable - alternately vacuous, scheming, shallow, materialistic and sexually demanding.I'm not sure whether Tsutsui was trying to make a point about Japanese culture and the shallow and uncaring nature of modern relationships or whether the stories reflected his own views.Ove... morerall, some fun, but there are much better anthologies of short stories out there. Three stars, only just!
review 2: I was drawn to the absurd title and I'm really not too sure what to make of this collection. It's a real curate's egg and much of it made me laugh out loud, particularly the title story. However as inventive and thought provoking some tales may be, others are downright rubbish. I particularly enjoyed The Last Smoker, but The Dabba Dabba Tree was just stupid and utterly predictable. All in all it's a 50/50 from me...2.5 stars less

Interesting and weird enough to pass the time but if you won't read it, you won't miss anything...
