review 1: 2.5 stars. Started strong, and in many ways pretty original - but then kinda didn't really go anywhere. I understand there's a sequel pending but frankly No Return didn't seem like the first book in a series - it seemed like the first half of a book. Not enough happened or was resolved. My other problem with it was the unrealistic nature of some elements of it - the Zelanyian superman protagonist(s), and the apparent willingness of so very many skilled fighters to battle to the death at the drop of a hat.

... moret, of which I want to find more. The three main caracters (without considering Pol and Ebn) are going in a trip to rediscover themselves and their powers, not only to fight in the tournament. I can't wait to read to follow-ups, otherwise the story itself from this first novel rises a lot of questions, without answering to some of them. Oh, and by the way, nobody recommended to me this book, I saw its cover and said to myself: this is a book I want to read. And I wasn't disappointed at all. less
