review 1: I was majorly disappointed with Charlie in this book. I LOVE Z.L. Arkadie's first book with Daisy and Belmont, but this one? Not so much. I get Charlie's a bit of a player. That's fine and that part she nailed. But what really pissed me off was the supposed way Charlie was pining over Angelina yet letting another woman blow him--and liking it! And having sex with another woman! He patently lied to Angelina when she asked if he had been with anyone since her. He has! The woman who crept into his room! And the thing that really annoyed me? His first thought when he saw her was, "I can't do this. There's a woman out there whose captured my heart and I won't hurt her." BUT instead it was, "Shit, I didn't bring any condoms." WTF?! He might've finally come to his senses when she... more started riding him, but HE WAS INSIDE HER! HE WAS HAVING SEX WITH HER! Yet he makes it sound like the we're try humping! Ha! Dry humping my ass!Personally I don't think he's ready to be in a proper relationship. He's too immature and he's not finished sowing his oats. Don't get me wrong, Z.L. Arkadie is an AMAZING writer. I just feel like THIS book let her down. I think the summary need a little reworking as I felt a little mislead.
review 2: This author’s style adds another level to her books, which I feel, sets her romance stories apart from others. This Series is so engaging. Love in the USA Series centers around the Lord family, Brothers- Belmont&Charlie, plus Cousin, Maggie. This is Charlie’s story. You first meet Charlie in Book #1, and he is a “Piece of Work” and yet I found myself so drawn to his character. In #2, Charlie continues his lifestyle of casual sex and booze with no direction. There might be hope for Charlie, as he becomes intrigued by Monroe. Ms. Arkadie gives you the impression #3 will be the Monroe and Charlie story. WRONG. Though, Monroe is back, the author adds a new love interest for Charlie, the very captivating Angelina. Angelina just happens to be his sister-in- law, Daisy’s half-sister. Since Charlie has always had a thing for his brother’s wife, Daisy, the plot gets even more interesting. What follows, is a very well told story of Charlie’s relationships with not only Angelina, but with his formidable brother. This really is a story of family dynamics, not only the Lords, but also the intriguing tale of Daisy and Angelina’s parents. There is their father, the legendary music composer, Jacques Blanchard, and his former mistress, Madame Josephine Beauchamp, the renowned Creole Singer and mother to his “Angel”. Plus, there is a brief appearance by Daisy’s mom, the intimidating, Heloise Krantz. There are thought-provoking revelations and very steamy scenes. When reading the very telling conversations between characters, I felt their insecurities and pain. The plot includes more unwise decisions by Charlie, as he desperately tries to find his way. Charlie’s insight on love warmed my heart, “Love is unpredictable. It has its own preference. It’s just a feeling, and the first time it hits you, it knocks the wind out of you. It’s inconvenient as hell, but it comes exactly when you’re ready. And if you’re lucky, you’ll notice it, claim it, and never _ it up.” 4.75 Rating (No 5 Stars, as the F word is over used.) less
