review 1: Bought this straight off the back of C&R and I loved it too.I liked that the book didn't brush over the huge issues T and Z were left with - two seriously damaged men, but unusually in a series like this Im finding i don't have a favourite; they both seduce me in their own way.Its odd but at the beginning of the book I was pretty much entirely in Camp Zane given his POV seemed to show he was pretty much in love with/in need of Ty, while Ty seemed already to be getting over him/pulling away and accepting that these things happened and no biggie. Unlike Zane who couldn't sleep without him. The initial scene using Zane as a human shield to win the exercise was actually quite shocking I thought, though Zane laughed it off (as a guy like him probably would). But it all added up... more to a Ty who appeared a lot less emotionally engaged than Zane. Then as the book goes on we see Ty is actually very much emotionally involved and is finally able to admit he's in love; that his pulling away has been because he's afraid he can't give Zane what he needs. Well played Urban and Roux- a reasonable explanation. More than that Zane tells Tys brother (genuinely) that he's not in love with Ty so - all sympathies thrown on their heads by the end of the book. That kind of skill I appreciate as a reader.Ty's bad assery too is very well done and one of the big pluses of the pairing - that he's vulnerable and gentle as well as an emotionally guarded, bare-handed killing machine. Potentially :-p. I thought the Gradys were possibly a bit predictable/cartoonish at first but the layers to Earl's characterisation helped, as did Chester and the shovel. The adventure too was actually pretty well done as were this book's life threatening moments/injuries. It helped too that the POV shifts were handled more smoothly than the first book - we didn't see so much mind-jumping paragraph to paragraph. I don't know if that was editing or a change of style but it was welcome. Also not sure how the two author thing works - do they write a character each? If so it works because Ty and Zane though both tough, masculine and able, are very distinct characters. So yeah - an easy 5 stars and on to the next one.
review 2: While I LOVE Ty & Zane... this particular book in the series? Not so much. I still adore the series, but this is among my least favorite books.Also... it must be said regarding the audiobook version- this narrator (same one that performed Cut & Run) is NOT my favorite, at all. It's difficult to tell Ty & Zane apart- it's not horrible, just not great or really good. Except for the FBI director voice- that's the only one he rocks at... well, maybe Duece, too. I could tell when it was Duece talking. I would love if they'd re-make this with the 'future' narrators... but considering they are 'behind' on audiobooks in the series... *Sigh* That REALLY needs to be addressed- but I suppose this review isn't really the place.So- if you are a fan of m/m, if you haven't read this, "ARE YOU MAD? RUN! NOW! You'll thank me later." *Cozy in my Ty & Zane sandwich* less
