review 1: Evangeline (Eva) Austin and Carter Morgan have a chance meeting at the opening of a upscale fashion shop. Sparks fly, and in the case of Eva, drinks spill on expensive suits. Introductions are made and covert, lustful glances are exchanged. Eva is an editor for a fashion website and Carter is a Forbes listed billionaire. Eva recently moved to Boston and is staying at her best friend Cate’s apartment. Years ago, Eva dated Cate’s brother Sawyer, who still is carrying a torch for her. The next day, Carter shows up at the same coffee shop as Eva and with a dossier of knowledge about her. Mr. Morgan has done his homework, or at least has paid handsomely for someone else to do so. Eva starts to receive expensive baubles and the two start dating. Though there is definitely ... morea mutual attraction, these two are both hot headed and are constantly arguing. Carter is jealous of Sawyer’s continued presence in Eva’s life. Eva is bothered by Madeline, a business associate who shares a history with Carter. It seems like every time they butt heads, Eva runs off. That became somewhat annoying for this reader. Carter is a typical alpha billionaire with a colorful past; discarded ex- lovers who pathetically attempt to resurrect dead relationships and an annoying habit of clamming up when questioned about his erratic behavior. One thing this novel doesn’t lack is steam. Ms. Leigh has left no stone unturned with her descriptions of Eva and Carter’s love making. Each sweaty interlude is played out with delicious detail leaving both the fictitious couple and the reader quite satisfied. Though the two face a multitude of challenges, the novel has a tolerable amount of angst and a very nice epilogue. I received a review copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
review 2: oh steel and lace, what did I think? hmm well im just a little disappointed. just a tad. This book was too much of a mixture between the cross series and 50 shades. Now im not saying that its wrong for books to he similar but I think that a book should still be able to hold it's own. It should still have it's own uniqueness and story to tell and I feel like steel amd lace just didn't do that. Here we have the same story of a billionaire CEO meeting another Eva who thinks she doesn't fit into his world but is so drawn to him that she doesn't care. Once again we have him sending her expensive gifts and borderline stalking her. I mean really? I'm just sick reading whats really almost the same story over and over again. I think author's should only be taking inspiration from other novels not take the story and write it over again. Have a different twist, make the characters different, do SOMETHING that makes the stort different. And this is the problem I had with steel and lace resulting in the 3 borderline 2.5 stars. Now dont get me wrong I still liked it and I might even read the next book. I think its just been building up in me to say all these things.. so im sorry Adriane Leigh for letting it all out on your book it really was a nice read and its not the only one very similar to others. Before I go, just one more thing: "He groaned when I undid the zipper. I was surpised to find he wasnt wearing underwear." Will someone please tell me why a billionaire CEO is not wearing underwear? Because it's certainly not because he can't afford them. I didn't find that attractive at all. Maybe if he hadnt just met her and they had this sereat inside joke as to why he didn't I would have had a problem but considering it's the first time there having sex.. no. less
