review 1: Yeah. So i started reading manga, thinking it'd be totally lame. And I was semi-right. BUT dude, so much drama!!!! I read every single chapter and volume and everything in this! I really admire Ai Yazawa with her work. I feel it certainly isn't for everyone, but it worked for me. It's sort of all about the relationship factors and dynamics of friends and such, but that doesn't really bother me, because going in the mind of unique fictional individuals is entertaining for me. :P I'm really bummed that the author has been sick for years and unable to complete her work with NANA, and even if she doesn't continue writing, I still hope she recovers. Best of luck to her. So yeah, I'm off to read more manga stuff. No shame. xD
review 2: This story was about two women
... morenamed Nana. One was a punk rock singer who wanted to make it big in the music business, the other was a pink loving, boy crazy girl who just couldn't find Mr. Right. Their paths cross and intertwine and everything seems fine, but if it stayed like that then it wouldn't be a drama. So, yeah, their lives were put in a shoe box, rattled around, flipped upside down, and dropped in the trash can. There is so much going on in this story that I'd have to write a novel just to explain it. In my opinion this was an awesome Manga! It is technically an Adult book but that's okay. There wasn't really that much nudity. There is nothing wrong with sex. The sex was a vital part of the story. But that isn't really the point. This graphic novel was full of drama. The characters were drawn so well and so detailed. The story was so well written, I was sucked in from the very beginning and I'm sad that it ended. This book made me laugh, cry and scream angrily(Which scared my mom). The part that really got me was when Hachiko and Nobu started to go out and then Hachiko found out she was pregnant with Takumi's baby! I was so mad that they split up such a good pairing, but I was also sad because as I kept reading I imagined how much the characters would be in pain if they were real. Poor Nobu. I also didnt really like the ending because it was sad. The best part about this Manga is that if you dont like reading or you read this and it didn't explain as much as you'd like it to then there is a Anime series and two live action movies about this story! I really really like this Manga, I'll probably read it again and again! I recommend this Manga to anyone who likes drama, romance, music and elaborate pictures to go along with your story. I reread the last four books. The first time I read them it was four in the morning and I was dead tired and reading to pass the time. After rereading the last four books I can say that I really really hate the ending for two reasons. Number one: The punk Nana's Fiance, Ren, died in a car crash and it was very emotional. I seriously cried. Number two: The author, Ai Yazawa, got sick and discontinued the Manga, therefore leaving the story open ended. less
