review 1: WARNING THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS. When I first started this book I didn't think that it would be very good but don't stop reading this because of that. As the story evolved it turned from in my opinion it seemed to g row just like Yamek does. As the story progresses Yanek goes to ten concentration camps the first one he meets up with his Uncle Moshe who gets shot and killed not too long after. He finds hope in places you would not expect. This story is filled with literally signposts and if you know what those are I could have done each one twice at least. My overall opinion of this book is if you want to learn about young people in other places of the world and thier hardships this is the book for you.
review 2: The story I read was prisoner B-3087. The main c
... moreharacter and the narrator is a Jewish boy named Yanek. Yanek and his family live in Kraków, Poland during WWII. When the Nazis invade, he and his family stay in the city as it is turned into a ghetto. Eventually the Nazis start taking Jews to camps, and Yanek and his family are eventually taken. Everybody in his family is killed, and he is forced to learn how to survive as he moves through multiple concentration camps and death marches and endures pain, hunger, and terrible living conditions. Eventually at his last camp, the Nazis suddenly leave and American soldiers come in and inform him and other Jews that they are free and everything is going to be alright. After that, Yanek is wandering the streets in Munich, Germany, and he meets by chance a lady who survived from his hometown, and his cousin. He goes to America for a new life at the end of the story. I thought that this book was very good and very eye-opening about the holocaust. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes stories of miraculous survival and is interested in WWII and the holocaust. less
