review 1: Consider this a 2.5 rating, not a 2. This would have made a much better novella or short story IMO--it really started to drag after a while. Which is a shame, because Jacqueline is an interesting, compelling character. I also found the ending a little too pat. A book this short shouldn't take me nearly a week to read, but the lack of movement in the plot didn't drive me to keep reading for anything but a short spurt.
review 2: Beautiful language, absolutely brilliantly written. It was a story that meandered and I never felt connected to the character or her plight. I think there may be issues with that for some readers, but the beauty of the story really lies in her emotions and thoughts. There isn't much interaction with other characters, as much as her... more memories and her recovery and experience. The language and his use of words are poetic. less
