review 1: Adam Garrett and Carl Landeau are partners and Homicide Detectives. They are called to the city dump because a body was found. She is naked, in with the trash, missing her left hand and her head. Along her shoulders drops of black wax. When they turn her over she has 3 carved triangles and 333 on her front, and blood between her legs. She also was stabbed in the chest. The new boyfriend is in to witch craft. He has the books and a grimoire (his spells). He is arrested. The victim turns out to be an 18 year old daughter of a very rich man. The Assistant DA and Garrett are having a quiet affair, can they work the same case? She doesn't see a problem. With all the witchy details, Garrett starts asking for help from a witch. He finds himself more and more attracted... more to her. But she has not been truthful and now she is a suspect. But she has convinced him that the person responsible will need to kill 3 more on Halloween and complete his ritual to call forth a demon. Garrett was raised a catholic, he's having a real hard time with the whole idea of witches and demons. The witch drugs him, they have sex and he has a vision of the car and its license. Even though he has been removed from the case and put on leave pending an investigation, he tracks down the owner of the car and likely places he might be doing the sacrifices and ritual. Can he get anyone to help him or believe him? Will he have to go it alone? Can he believe the witch who lied to him once? Does he even believe a demon can be summoned? Has he destroyed his career because he just couldn't give up on getting to the truth? Or will he die and none of this will matter?
review 2: Detectives Garrett & Landauer investigate the brutal murder of a rich college student. They arrest who they believe is the murderer. Everything points to him. Tanith a practicing Witch tells them they have the wrong person and that there will be more murders if they don't look for the real killer. Trusting & believing Tanith is hard for Garrett since he does not believe in all that stuff and after she has drugged him it makes it that much harder to trust. When the real killer causes his partner to end up in a coma Garrett must turn to Tanith to stop the killer before he murders 3 more teenagers on Halloween. I liked the book I would have liked it better had it ended different and I would have liked to know why Garrett's Lieutenant didn't like him. less
