review 1: So very disappointing. 1.5 stars. There was an idea in there somewhere but it died under the weight of the unexplained weird, like why the heck we needed the furry cow bugs. I love fairy tale books, and I had high hopes, which were dashed. Short on plot, characters I didn't get to know or care about, and zero atmosphere- I mean for crying out loud if you can't make a semi deserted island and a bog work, maybe you shouldn't do fantasy. I was hoping for something along the lines of Tender Morsels, which was great. This book wasn't.
review 2: Phew!! What a book! Kudos to the imagination of Ali Shaw, the way he created a fantasy land with real people in it. Coming up with the concept of a girl turning into glass is not exceptional per say but the rendition was o... moreut of the world.I was moved to tears. Having said so, the book is not at all a sappy one nor did it lag in pace.A fictitious topic handled in a very mature way! less
