review 1: Zell has been a widow for a year after losing her husband in a freak accident while on a rescue mission post hurricane Katrina, when nine year old Ingrid Knox and her father move in next door. The two become friends and decide to enter a cooking contest, which is a good distraction as both have issues they are trying to work through. Adding depth to the storyline there are also some mysteries to solve , some humor ( as some of their cooking projects sound truly awful) and of course some hearts to be mended. This is an easy to read book. , with plenty of small town characters to love . 3.5 stars
review 2: This is a sweet (bittersweet) story. How does a wife go through the grieving process when a husband dies at a young age? We meet Zell who is still deep ... morein the hard pit of grief. She needs to start rebuilding her life but doesn't really know how, where to start, or even that she should start. Old friends, neighbours, and new people she allows into her life help her enter a new future – different than expected but quite possibly, eventually a good one! less
