review 1: I wanted to like this more than I did. I enjoyed the story line, and thought it could have been great, but for me the whole story dragged. It just moved too slowly, and it seemed to jump around in a strange manner. The writing felt stilted and choppy, which was probably why I found myself skipping sections and wondering how that had happened. Overall, this was simply "okay," I thought, and not one I'd read again. I'm still determining if I'll try another by this author.
review 2: I like Jane Austen books, I really do. I haven’t read them all but those that I have read I liked. I thought that this book would be like a bit of retelling of one of her stories in a modern day setting. But that’s not really what this turned out to be. Though it was Jane Aus... moreten related, sort of, for me it could just as well have been just another romance novel. But that said it was an okay book. It just didn’t blow me away at all. There were few surprises, pretty much none.There’s not a lot I can say about the story. It’s a pretty standard romance story without surprises. It’s all there in the synopsis and that’s that. This is turning out to be a pretty difficult review to write because this book does not really invoke a lot of emotions me. I read the book and it just left me untouched.Nicola was not someone I particularly liked, simply because we don’t have a lot in common. She felt pretty rigid and set in her ways. Though that is not necessarily a bad trait in people, but this was a bit over the top for me. Add to that the fact that she pretty easily believed the diary to some level it felt a bit weird. Sean seemed pretty fun though I’m not sure why he was instantly captivated by our main lewd but I can handle that. The people that I did like where her friends. They seemed a lot of fun and these were people that I myself could be friends with.The writing style was not exceptional but not bad either. It took me a while to get the hang of it enough to read at a steady pace.I don’t have a lot to add to this review though I’m aware that it’s pretty short. This book didn’t make me feel a whole lot which is generally not a good thing. though it would be nice to have more to say about this book I just can’t think of of anything to add to this review. less
