Drake Chronicles
review 1: Out for Blood was slightly different than the previous Drake novels; the third book is about Quinn, twin of Connor, and a terrible flirt. He happens to meet Hunter, who is briefly mentioned in Blood Feud. Hunter is another kick-ass main character, fierce and a vampire hunter. When she meets the Drake family she begins forming a different opinion about vampires; not all of them are bad. So she begins an uneasy alliance with Quinn. The two slowly get to know each other until they start falling for each other. In the midst of their budding romance, a sinister plot beings to unfold. The students in Hunter's vampire hunter school are beginning to die slowly and painfully. What could be behind it all? Like the previous female characters I took a liking to Hunter; she reminds me ... morea lot of Isabeau, with the fierceness and kick-ass attitude. She seems like the most normal teenage girl in the series that I've come across so far. Quinn is a lot like most male leads; dangerous and seductive. But there's something different about him. He has a soft, mushy side when it comes to Hunter and I thought that was really cute. Lucy and Nicholas are mentioned a few times throughout the book; I'll never get enough of them. They're my favorite couple! There's various mentions of Isabeau and Logan; though, not as much as Lucy makes an appearance. I really liked the plot in this. It was different from the previous two books. It moved steadily and kept me in suspense for a while there. I had a problem with one of the characters Chloe, Hunter's friend, who even Hunter has a problem with. But that is for a very good reason. It took me a while to figure out who was behind the mystery this time; I figured it out two chapters before the shadowy figure was revealed. But Out for Blood had the best plot so far of the Drake Chronicles. The dialogue in the three books so far is just hilarious and great. It's what keeps me so entertained. The writing and structure, not so much. But the characters a wonderful and extremely likable. The romance, though, seems a bit rushed.
review 2: 3.5 stars.Still enjoying the Drake Chronicles. It's refreshing in this YA genre to find that the heroines are smart, strong, and independent. The brothers, too, are admirable - they've been raised by a very tough, protective mother, the family has some scary matriarchs, and their father is the diplomatic, but quietly strong guy. I like that they have great respect for women and can be patient and understanding (even though they're all gorgeous). less
