review 1: I wanted to like this book more than I did. I was excited to read it, but it just felt like a brag fest about the author's high end possessions and friends. Almost all of the images are of the 1950s-1970s women, which gives the book a very dated feel even though the author states that she did this on purpose to recognize classics that endure. The only "current" photos seem to be of Kate Moss, Chloe Sevigny, or Agnes Dehn - not for me. I just didn't connect with the author, her lifestyle, or her taste.
review 2: I have to confess that I didn't read all the text, but the big draw is the photos anyway. There are lots of photos of stylish women throughout the twentieth century, mostly famous (a lot of photos of the author too, which makes sense since it's writte
... moren in a very personal style). I'd be curious to see how this book ages, since the 2000s photos didn't seem nearly as appealing to me as the older ones.I'm not sure if this would enable someone with no sense of style at all to define and refine theirs, but I found it an enjoyable browse. less
