review 1: I'm glad I read book 3 in the series first, because many of the supporting characters in book one of the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series are just so downright awful that I don't think I would read anymore of these books.Chloe Humphrey is moving from Cleveland to a small town in Ohio's Amish country to take a job as IT director for a small college. On her way into town, she helps a young woman escape some creeps. The young woman, Becky, has just left her Amish home to live in the English world, and Becky ends up as Chloe's roommate. It doesn't hurt that she has an attractive older brother, Timothy, who is also former Amish.Becky "borrows" Chloe's car, the breaks fail, and an Amish bishop is killed. However, it turns out that Chloe's car was tampered with, and the break line ... morewas cut. Chloe begins an unofficial investigation, sometimes getting in the way of and sometime's helping Appleseed Creek's chief of police. Not a bad story overall, just so many really unlikable supporting characters.I was also bugged by some of the descriptions of driving in Columbus, the directions are wrong, but that's just me being a weirdo and obsession about something small.
review 2: With my dad having grown up in Holmes County, Ohio, I've always been curious about the Amish. When I was ten, my family took a trip to the East Coast, starting in Ohio, looping down to Virginia, traveling northward to Maine, taking a brief foray into Canada, and then dropped back into Ohio, visiting Dad's hometown of Millersburg last. I was fascinated by the buggies, the bonnets, and the simple Amish way of life. While I have only read one Amish book of fiction (which was first a fan fiction), I felt drawn to the idea of an Amish mystery novel so I picked up the first of Amanda Flowers' Appleseed Creek mysteries. And I read it in less than 24 hours...at least there's one advantage to having strep throat in the summertime. I really loved the first book and the interaction among the characters, and I'm just glad that I happened to order all three books from the library at the same time. I've diving right into the second novel as soon as I can! :) less

This book for me was more contemporary than Amish.
