review 1: Wow! Another very interesting Scottish romance that kept me turning pages. I love Amanda Forester's characters.Aila's father does not want her joining the convent as her mother has been planning for years. He needs her to have a family so he has someone to pass things on to. He has an offer for her, but he has no desire to marry her off to someone he sees as a traitor. McNab did not show loyalty to the crown, and he wishes better for his daughter. When Padyn MacLaren returns from France he sees it as a chance to build up his army and someone good for his daughter. The story was full of suspense and action and adventure with plenty of fighting and craziness. Also enjoyed the side story of Mary and Chaumont.
review 2: I really liked this highlander's book as much
... more as I did book 2, probably more actually. It is humorous, and it moves in a much faster pace than highlander's heart. However, 3/4 of the way in, the hero falls madly in love with Aila -- as to when this actually happened -- escapes me. I felt like I missed something. Sure he finds her physically attractive, but there was somewhat a lack of chemistry between them- in my opinion. I missed that spark that would make their encounters pull on my heartstrings. Having said that, I do love the author's writing; it's engaging, active, and funny-- something that I'm not accustomed to find in highlander books. I found myself laughing out loud at times ;). I will probably end up reading book 3 --despite my intense dislike for the Macnab clan. less
