review 1: Enjoyable book to read. Had a little bit of everything. Drama, romance, humor, adventure.Laird David Campbell rescues a woman who keeps trying to escape. Lady Isabelle Tynsdale is trying to get to someone who will annul her marriage to Lord Tynsdale so she can be free of his treachery. Although she hasn't seen him in years, he will now want her to return because her uncle has passed and the land that she inherits will be rightfully claimed by her husband. Only she does not know that her husband has recently died and that she is headed into the arms of a man who is even worse than her husband was, his bastard son Simon who is after acknowledgment as the son of Lord Tynsdale.Lady Isabella is an awesome character. She has a good heart but at every turn her willingness to help... more others out (and herself) seem to fall on bad luck. She's sure that if there is a God He is not hearing her prayers. She finds herself torn between wanting to return to England and staying in the Highlands with David Campbell. Every time she tries to escape, she finds herself back in David's arms.We also have the side story of Lady Cait Campbell, sister to David, who is betrothed but has no desire to marry a man who also has no desire to marry her. I am looking forward to more stories of the Campbell clan.
review 2: I really liked this romance. It kept me guessing (for once!) and it made me laugh A LOT. It got pretty funny. It was so good I didn't even mind the halfway through the book sudden Christian undertones. Usually, I don't like it when an author springs religion on you, when you aren't expecting it. But, in this book, it was subtle, and I actually liked it. I am looking forward to the next one in the series. less
