review 1: I found it interesting reading about Brandon's time in the West Indies (or rather, India) but I wish the author had drawn it out even more, to get a more interesting picture of Brandon. Of all the characters, Brandon still seemed the most flat, despite the fact that it is written in first person, and in the original (Sense & Sensibility) he is compelling. The relationship that grew between him and Marianne was probably the most genuine part of the novel, however rushed it did seem.
review 2: I have never been the biggest fan of Sense and Sensibility, but I read it a few times and thought it was okay, but not the best Jane Austen book ever. That said, I read most of these 'Diaries' books and thought I'd give this one a chance too. Unfortunately, it was just like
... more the rest. I didn't pick up Colonel Brandon's voice at all. It is 'generic English gentleman.' I felt the book was forced and uninspired, almost like it is just like all the other books in the series, just a different name. It wasn't a total waste, but maybe Edward Ferras would have been a tad more interesting. less

2.5 I was a bit bored because you don't get much interaction between Brandon and Maryanne.

Not my favorite of the Grange spin-offs but still diverting.
